Privacy Policy
Caseta is a mixtape app. You build cassettes, record voice notes, upload audio and pictures, link YouTube videos, and lend a tape to one person you invite by username. This page says what we collect to make that work, where it lives, how long we keep it, and how to get rid of it. We have tried to write it so you can read it on a phone.
1. Who we are
Registered office: Aleea Romanilor nr. 23, bl. 12, sc. 2, ap. 107, Deva 330107, Hunedoara County, Romania.
Trade Register no. J2025048383009 · Tax identification code (CUI) 52084942 · EUID ROONRC.J2025048383009.
Caseta is run by the operator named above ("we", "us"). You can reach a person at contact@dnatechbase.com for anything about your data.
2. What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to keep your account and play your tapes. Caseta itself has no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking tools, and no payments. All of the data below is linked to your account and used for nothing but running the service. The one third-party component that handles personal data on its own is Google's sign-in library, described under "Signing in with Google or Apple" below.
| Data | Why | Where it is stored | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address | To create and sign in to your account, and to match a lent tape to the one person it was lent to. | Firebase Authentication and a profile record in Cloud Firestore. | Until you delete your account. |
| Display name | Shown on your profile, and to a recipient only if you choose to show your name when lending a tape. | Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore. | Until you delete your account or change it. |
| User id | A random identifier that ties your tapes, tracks and files to your account. | Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore and the folder names in Cloud Storage. | Until you delete your account. |
| Profile photo | Shown on your profile, and to a recipient only if you choose to show your name and photo when lending. | Cloud Storage, in your own private folder. | Until you replace it or delete your account. |
| Voice recordings | They are tracks on your tapes. | Cloud Storage, in your own private folder. | Until you delete the tape or your account. |
| Uploaded audio files | They are tracks on your tapes. | Cloud Storage, in your own private folder. | Until you delete the tape or your account. |
| Uploaded pictures (covers, stickers, avatars) | They decorate your tapes and your profile. | Cloud Storage, in your own private folder. | Until you delete the tape, remove the picture, or delete your account. |
| Tape titles, track titles and artist names | They label your tapes and tracks. | Cloud Firestore. | Until you delete the tape or your account. |
| Loan notes (up to 500 characters) | A message you write to the person you lend a tape to. | Cloud Firestore. | Until the loan is revoked or you delete the tape or your account. |
| A push-notification token for each phone you allow notifications on | So we can tell that phone when someone lends you a tape. It identifies the app on your device to Apple's or Google's notification service, nothing else. It is removed when you sign out, and you can switch notifications off in your phone's settings at any time. | Cloud Firestore. | |
| Your username, and the username you type when lending | Your username is how a friend finds your account to lend to it; anyone who knows it can check that it exists and see your display name and photo, never your email. A loan records the account it went to, so only that account can open the tape. | Cloud Firestore. | Until the loan is revoked or you delete the tape or your account. |
| IP address and browser or device details at sign-in | Recorded by Firebase Authentication to protect accounts from abuse. We do not use it for anything else. | Firebase Authentication (Google). | Kept by Google under its own security log retention. |
Signing in with Google or Apple
If you sign in with Google or with Apple, we receive your email address and name from that provider. Apple lets you hide your email; if you do, we receive a relay address instead. We do not ask those providers for anything else.
On iPhone, Google sign-in runs through Google's own sign-in library inside the app. Google's privacy manifest for that library declares that it may collect your name, email address, phone number, coarse location, user and device identifiers and usage data for its own purposes, under Google's privacy policy. Caseta only ever receives your email address and name from it, and never sees or stores the rest. If you would rather not use it, sign in with Apple or with email and password instead.
The pictures and sounds you add are only ever chosen by you. Caseta uses the system photo picker and the microphone when you ask it to; it does not read your photo library or listen in the background.
3. How we use it
- To keep your account and sign you in.
- To store your tapes and play them back to you.
- To deliver a tape you lend to the one person you invited, and to nobody else.
- To answer you when you write to us, and to act on reports of abuse or copyright problems.
- To protect the service from abuse, using the sign-in records Firebase keeps.
We do not sell your data, do not use it for advertising, and do not build profiles from it.
4. Who can see it
Firebase (Google)
Caseta is built on Firebase, which is part of Google Cloud. Your data is stored and processed in
Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage and Cloud Functions in Google's
us-central1 region (United States). Google acts as our processor: it stores the data on our
instructions and does not use it for its own purposes. Google's handling of that data is described in the
Google Privacy Policy.
The person you lend a tape to
When you lend a tape, its content (recordings, uploaded audio, pictures, titles, linked videos and your loan note) becomes playable by the one account whose username you entered, after that person signs in. If you chose to show yourself as the sender, they also see your display name and profile photo. If you did not, the tape arrives from "A friend". A tape can be out on loan to only one person at a time, and you can take it back whenever you like.
Nobody else
Your media is private. Nothing in Caseta is public. Every time a file is played or shown, the app fetches it with a short-lived signed link: about 5 minutes (300 seconds) for a lent tape, about an hour (3600 seconds) for your own previews. When a link expires or a loan is revoked, the file can no longer be reached. We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers or any other third party. We would only disclose it if the law required us to.
5. YouTube
You can put a YouTube video on a tape by pasting its link. Those videos play through YouTube's own embedded player, which is provided by Google. When a YouTube track plays, your device talks to YouTube directly, and YouTube may set its own cookies and collect data as described in the Google Privacy Policy. By using YouTube tracks in Caseta you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. We store only the link and the title you give the track.
6. Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete a tape, its recordings, audio files and pictures are removed from storage along with the tape. When you delete your account, everything goes: your tapes, recordings, pictures, loans, profile and the account itself.
The sign-in security records (IP address and device details) are kept by Google as part of Firebase Authentication and follow Google's own retention for security logs; we cannot shorten or extend it.
How to delete your account is on the Delete account page.
7. Your rights
Whatever country you are in, you can:
- See what we hold about you. Most of it is visible in the app; write to us for the rest.
- Correct your name and profile photo in the app under Profile.
- Delete single tapes, single pictures, or your whole account, in the app or by email.
- Ask us anything about your data, or complain, at contact@dnatechbase.com.
Depending on where you live you may have further rights under local law, such as the right to portability or to object to processing. Write to us and we will act on them. If you are unhappy with our answer you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Adults only
Caseta is an adults-only service, rated 18+ on the App Store and distributed to an adults-only audience on Google Play. It is not directed at children or teenagers, we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and accounts must be held by someone 18 or older. If you believe somebody under 18 has created an account, write to us at contact@dnatechbase.com and we will close it and delete what is on it.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, the app will ask you to look at it again before you continue.
10. Contact
